Bio

Guillermo Klein is a composer, pianist and arranger born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, currently residing in Upstate New York.

He has released several acclaimed albums with his flagship ensemble, Los Guachos, as well as with other formations as a leader. Described by The New York Times as having built "fascinating bridges between jazz, pop, classical music and the chacareras and tangos of his native Argentina. His best music also carries smart harmonic ideas and surprising bolts of lyricism, but virtually all of it deals purposefully with the subject of groove.”

Over the course of his career, Klein has collaborated as a composer and arranger with artists including Liliana Herrero, Miguel Zenón, Seamus Blake, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Joshua Redman, Magos Herrera, Ambrose Akinmusire, Aaron Goldberg and Rebecca Martin.

He has composed and arranged for a wide range of ensembles, including the MIT Wind Ensemble, the American Composers Orchestra, and the Buenos Aires Philharmonic. He is a frequent collaborator of prominent European big bands such as UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra, Orquestra de Jazz de Matosinhos (OJM), hr-Bigband, Swiss Jazz Orchestra , Girona Jazz Project, and the Metropole Orkest. He is currently a professor of Jazz Composition in the Master's program at the Jazzcampus in Basel — FHNW.
